Welcome to the great Southern Cafe
Pour yourself a glass of wine, and I’ll tell you how this came to be...
I believe our histories are told by the food we cook and eat. This restaurant tells the story of my history, connecting my life experiences with the food I cook. I spent my childhood traveling and eating with my family from Iceland to Australia as we followed Dad in his career as a Navy pilot. This restaurant touches on that part of my life, but it focuses more on the great food and people I’ve met along the road as I revisit those traveled in my youth. Here, you’ll taste the crackle of fried okra in Grandma’s skillet and see flashes in the woks of my Thai friends’ grandmothers as we cook through their secret recipes.
So with my grandmothers’ cast iron skillets, and a 99-pound sack of grits, I brought my taste for international cuisines home and began to mix local food – fresh produce from nearby farms and fresh fish from the Gulf of Mexico – and Southern cooking with flavors from around the world.
I hope you find the flavors of my life and cooking to your liking, and keep in mind the great wines that help complement our lives. We’ll be looking for you.
